This is the document to read before writing the spec, because “interlayer” is four different products solving overlapping but distinct problems, and the wrong one is expensive rather than merely suboptimal.
The short version. GlasGrid is a fiberglass grid: very high tensile strength at very low strain, which matters because asphalt cracks at low strain. It resists cracks migrating up. It does not waterproof. GlasPave is fiberglass mesh in a polyester mat, so binder saturates the mat and it does both jobs, reinforcement and moisture. GlasGrid TF is GlasGrid with the tack film already on it, which takes a truck and a cure off the schedule.
So the question that actually decides it is not “which is strongest”, it is whether water is part of the problem. If the pavement is cracking and dry, a grid is the efficient answer. If water is getting into the section through the cracks, a grid alone leaves that untouched and you want the mat.
Worth knowing while you are in here: GlasGrid needs its tack fully cured before paving, and CompoGrid needs to go down while the tack is still tacky. Same manufacturer, opposite rules. We have written both up: GlasGrid, GlasGrid TF, GlasPave and CompoGrid.
