The selling point is the connection. Geogrid meets the wire form mechanically rather than by friction or a clamp, and the guide leans on that for a practical reason worth knowing: it gives you a visual quality check during construction. You can see whether a layer is connected. On systems that rely on friction you are trusting the crew and the compaction.

That matters most where the wall will settle differentially or take seismic or heavy surcharge loads, which is exactly where friction connections give trouble.

Compaction behind the face is where wire-formed walls are won or lost. Too little and the face bulges over a season; too much heavy equipment too close and you push the face out while you are building it. The guide sets out the zone where you switch to light compaction, and that is the line to hold your crew to.
