System overview for MESA, the first segmental retaining wall with a positive mechanical connection between the geogrid and the wall face, where block, geogrid and connector are all designed together.
The distinction MESA is built on: most segmental walls rely on friction between the block and the grid, with the grid pinched by the weight of the course above. MESA uses a connector, so the connection is mechanical and does not depend on how well the courses were seated.
That matters where the wall is structural rather than decorative, taller, surcharged, or somewhere settlement is expected. On a three-course landscape wall it is over-specified.
The single-source point is worth more than it sounds. Block, grid and connector from one company means the connection strength is a tested number rather than an assumption about two products that were never designed to meet. If you are mixing a block from one supplier with grid from another, somebody has to own that connection value, and usually nobody does.
