The product brochure for the RSi-Series, a double-layer woven geotextile combining monofilament and fibrillated yarns to give reinforcement, confinement, separation and filtration in one product.
The claim to weigh: over three times the surface area of a typical woven geotextile, from a double-layer construction that puts monofilament and fibrillated yarns together. More surface area means more friction against the soil, and friction is what gives you confinement.
At low strain levels is the part to notice. Any reinforcement works eventually if you deform it enough, but a pavement has failed by then. What matters is stiffness at the small strains a road actually sees, and that is where a high-modulus woven earns its price against a cheaper fabric.
The weft yarn sets giving paths for water flow is the other half of it. This is one product doing what would otherwise be a geogrid plus a separation fabric, which is one pass on site instead of two.
