Installation guidelines for Mirafi MPV nonwoven paving fabric under a hot mix overlay: surface preparation, tack grade and temperature, application rate by fabric, and laying the mat.
Emulsions and cutbacks are not recommended. That single line causes more arguments on site than anything else in the document, usually because an emulsion is what is already in the yard. Use neat PG binder or a polymerised asphalt cement.
Tack temperature in the truck runs 325 to 400°F, and in hot weather you move up a grade rather than adding more material. The guide has a table of grades for exactly that. Getting this wrong does not show up until the overlay is down.
The surface has to be dry. Not damp, dry. Tack over a damp surface delaminates from the existing pavement, and then the interlayer is a bond breaker rather than a membrane, which is worse than not putting it in at all.
One detail that gets missed: spray the tack wider than the mat, at least four inches past it longitudinally and transversely on any overlap side. A dry strip under a lap is where the mat starts to lift.
