Installation guidelines for the Mirafi MPG composite paving grids, with the detail that matters most on a milled surface: what to do about low spots, and what to do where milling has cut through to the base.
This is the guide to read if you are placing an interlayer on a milled surface, because it deals with what milling actually leaves behind rather than an ideal flat pavement.
Two specifics worth knowing before the mill goes through. Where milling leaves local areas more than half an inch below the milled surface, fill them with mix before the interlayer, not after. And where milling has cut through to aggregate or cement treated base, an area under about ten feet square gets tacked with an emulsion and allowed to break before the interlayer goes on. That is the one place in the paving fabric family where an emulsion is the right answer, which is exactly why it is worth knowing rather than assuming.
On cleaning: a power broom and vacuum take the big stuff, but the fines need a blower. Fines left on a milled surface are a bond breaker under the tack, and they are the hardest thing to see from the truck.
